Celebrity Paintball Tournament & Luncheon

June 23rd, 2010 at 12:28 am by tricieonetwo

Hey guys! I know you’ve heard about the Celeb Paintball game. It was a success!! Moving Mountains wants to thank EVERYBODY that came out. Team The Wire won the tournament with Teams Def Jam and Stackhouse coming in 2ND and 3rd. The luncheon afterwards was also a big hit! Shout outs to the honorees Egypt (who received the Image Award presented by yours truly :) ), Gifted Apparel (who received an award presented by Nay) and Micheal K. Williams (who received the Humanitarian award by Jamie himself), as well as everybody who came to show us some love! As a little surprise with the help of Robert Vasquez, we presented Jamie, Ally and Ese with an award that showed a token for our appreciation for putting all their energy into us. A bunch of pictures were taken and we really felt like stars!

Also if your wondering where you can get a Moving Mountains shirt contact us at movingmountainsinc@gmail.com

This is It

June 22nd, 2010 at 10:58 pm by tricieonetwo

Hey guys quick post.

I’m actually in the middle of watching Michael Jackson’s “This is It”. I feel sad watching it because he was a wonderful perfomer as well as the BEST artist of all time in my opinion. His legacy alone is going to live on as if he never left. I don’t think he actually has a song that wasn’t a hit. Lol. However as I’m watching the movie and looking at how it was put together, there’s no doubt in my mind that he killed himself. How could somebody who was 8 days away from making their re-appearance after 10 years turn around and over dose on drugs. In all the interviews Michael has ever done, he talks about how performing is his life. What you guys think about that situation? Was he murdered or did he really overdose?

Also the song itself “This is It” is a real good song for this time of year as the Class of 2010 (which I am apart of) brings their final days of school (whether it be jhs, hs, elementary or college) to an end, it’s really when you sit back and say “This is It!!”

Spring Season

April 13th, 2010 at 6:17 pm by tricieonetwo

Hey guys! I know it’s been a long time but I’m back. I wanted to get on here and talk to you guys about something that I’ve been noticing a lot lately: Hood Beef.
I’m going to quote Faith Summers: “I don’t know why but everytime the weather gets a little hot outside, y’all don’t know how to act.” Everywhere I go, there’s new beef. I don’t feel it’s necessary to be outside fighting. Personally I think were too grown for all that. Don’t get me wrong I’ve had my share of beef, but I know when it’s time to walk away. Everybody says “I don’t back down from nobody I ain’t scared of nobody”. Is it not backing down that makes u tough, or is it the ability to stand up and walk away make you tough?

Life Love Soul

April 13th, 2010 at 6:16 pm by tricieonetwo

Hey guys sorry I haven’t been able to post in so long… I just wanted to stop in and tell you guys about this new movie called Live Love Soul. Moving Mountains Was asked to join in on some of the scenes and we had a blast! It was a wonderful experience to actually see what it was like to be on set and to work with Jamie on camera. We spent two days (Sunday & Monday) at Bronx Prep Charter School. I can’t stress how much fun we had. However since we were only extras there was a lot of waiting and wandering around. This gave a couple of us the chance to talk to the crew members and get a better understanding of how behind the scenes really work. Again it was a lot of fun and I can’t wait to do it again. I don’t want to give away the movie so check out the trailor for Life Love Soul on YouTube!!

MLK Day

January 18th, 2010 at 3:13 pm by tricieonetwo

Hey Guys,
Back for another blog! Just wanted to start off by saying Happy Martin Luther King Day! I wonder what plans people have for today. It doesn’t seem like people still look at this day as anything more than a day off of school/work. I remember in elementary and junior high school, the teachers would give puzzles and little mini-lessons about MLK. Now in high school, we just get homework for a 3-day weekend. What do you guys think about this??

Its Time for College!!

November 10th, 2009 at 2:45 am by tricieonetwo

Hey guys
Its about that time of the year for seniors to start applying to college. Personally this is the MOST stressful part of the year. I really do hope everybody is working hard to get their applications together. With today’s economy, just graduating High School isn’t good enough anymore. There’s a college 4 everyone and the government has all kinds of programs and financial aid that gives students money to attend college. Not a lot of schools are very dedicated to making sure their kids find a good college like mines is. SUNY(State University of New York) & CUNY(City University of New York) schools are very affordable for students in New York, especially CUNYs. Applying is simple for CUNYs: Choose 6 schools you would like and then mail a money order of 65 to the CUNY Board. Then head to Cuny.edu and apply. The application process takes less than 25 mins. Applying to SUNYs are like applying to private college without the huge cost of applying to places like Harvard or Princeton. As I saw the movie about Black Wall St, I heard a lady say that kids leave school because they don’t have the money, they don’t have the opportunity. I think this is so true because its real easy for kids especially black kids to become discouraged when it comes to school due to all of the distractions outside of school, whether it be drugs, parties, peer pressure & quick money. Even personal issues cause kids to loose interest in school. I can personally say that school adds extra pressure when you have personal issues that seem bigger than school. I just hope that everybody decides to make something of them selves and go to college!
The first step towards getting ready for college is deciding what major(s) you are interested in. If you cant choose then when applying your major would be listed as Liberal Arts. The next step is to look into colleges that interest you. You can take college tours and speak to reps and go to fairs that occur around the city. Speak to your guidance counselor and get recommendations from your teachers, previous job owners, etc. Make your application stand out. Write a good personal statement. If you need help with writing it, I’ll help you with it! Just let me know if your interested. Good Luck guys!

Sincerely,
Trice

P.S. There is an HBCU Fair November 14th from 11 am to 3 pm. Moving Mountains will be there, hope you will to!!:)

Black Wall Street

October 24th, 2009 at 11:39 pm by tricieonetwo

Hey guys I’m back with another interesting topic…Black Wall Street. No I’m not talking about The Game’s record label, I’m talking about the most wealthiest all-black communities in America. Up until June 1st 1921, Black Wall Street consisted of 36 all black run business. According to daveyd.com there were “21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores and two movie theaters, plus a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half-dozen private airplanes and even a bus system.” All of these which kept money circulating throughout the community. Go to the below website and do your own research now that I gave u a little background information. “http://www.daveyd.com/blackwallpolitic.html” (You don’t have to stop there. You can further look into it as much as u like.) When u finish, let me kno what u think and how u feel and if your views have been changed.
After reading this article I was shocked. I never knew there was an all black community that was successful. They don’t teach you this in school. I think not only is it sad, its upsetting because a lot of young people black and white don’t know an important part of history that should be taught to everybody. In between learning about the first car and the roaring 20’s, why couldn’t they spend a lesson or two on the Black Wall Street?
I bet your wondering what sparked this blog right? Well Moving Mountains had a few guests come to our last rehearsal and we had a very interesting talk. First we had a nutritionist come by and talk to us about how and what we need to eat. That part alone gave us a new outlook towards food even though we all know its going to be hard to make that switch when its something we’ve been accustomed to. Do you feel the same?
After our nutrition lesson, Queon Martin from Hip-Hop 24/7 came by and showed us a little video about Black Wall Street. Then he challenged us to find out more about Black Wall Street on our own, for the simple fact that we wont learn about it in school. And now im challenging you. What do you think? How do you feel?
Sincerely,
Trice
